Climbing Breakfast
Hi there!
Unlevel edges are the future of finger training in climbing. No hand is created the same and invidiualization creates the best environment for rehabbing or training fingers without constantly overloading the middle-most fingers.
Humble beginnings
Now, in Europe there aren't a lot of options to get these designs or tools. The forefront of designers are located in the US. I own one of these tools and tremendously enjoyed it. However, I wanted these to be available on this side of the globe more readily. Call it midlife crisis if you will, but out of the blue I bought a 3D printer and began to learn CAD design. Here we use FreeCAD because open source is RAD.
I did not want to repeat existing designs. I wanted something that can combine most, if not all finger training protocols, in one device. I conversed with coaches and designers who are well-versed in the topic and design and I am extremely grateful for the openness to communicate and collaborate within the space. That was necessary to understand the unlevel design of the device. The rest of the design, hundres of hours of prototyping and iteration I arrived at the current and final form on my own with some help from intial testers. The main ingredient really was iteration after iteration always progressing towards somethign better.
Triangulum
It began as triangular device but the design developed from there to add more and more functionality. Most brands sell one device per training regimen, whether it's pinches, monos etc. It's not bang for the buck. I wanted to innovate and iterate on existing design to create something that offers everything a climber needs for finger training and rehab for all sizes of climbers. If you have specific need for a specific type of warm up - it's there: tufas, monos, pinches, big holds, small holds, thin pinches etc. Textures created to minimize need for chalk and to prevent dry/wet firing and potentially injuring yourself training. All depths included to satisfy specific needs in an easy to use way.
I didn't know what I was doing when I started this journey or where it would end up, especially wanting to create something "new". Something that draws from what exists to create something more. I didn't know 3D printing, I didn't know CAD. Now I do...at least a bit. Or enough to design climbing tools. And having had all sorts of injuries and rehabbing (for example a dislocated thumb) this is by far the best tool I have personally used (and I own a lot). Custom measured unlevel edges are a game changer for me, and the only way so far that has alleviated the beginnings of osteoarthritis.
The Brekfast
And there. Now after a long design process, I finally was able to offer it to the world. And here I am. Hoping it will serve others as well as it has me. And hopefully it will give an opportunity to improve upon materials as eventually I want to be able incorporate wood materials into the points of contact. Alas, that will require time to achieve. But here we start. Thank you for visiting, reading and perhaps for a purchase.
